{"id":186,"date":"2011-02-17T20:09:00","date_gmt":"2011-02-17T20:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.harris.gb.net\/?p=186"},"modified":"2021-04-15T20:13:35","modified_gmt":"2021-04-15T19:13:35","slug":"getting-there","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.harris.gb.net\/?p=186","title":{"rendered":"Getting there"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Azalai is going into OEC for what\u2019s hopefully the last pre-trip works.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve decided to fit a cruise control as flexing ones arm on a long run is overly tiring (foot throttle uses extensor muscles) and probably not as safe as having two hands on the steering wheel on such a heavy vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Paul (OEC) is doing a few refinements on the tail lift too. Of these slowing it\u2019s ascent by putting a reducing valve into the hydraulic line is probably the most significant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The oil leaks on the transmission mentioned in the last entry look like residue from the old, mended leaks \u2013 good news.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The van is much perkier too since we set the transmission\u2019s \u2018compushift\u2019 to know that the vehicle\u2019s weight is 3000kgs not \u201c1500lbs\u201d !!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fuel consumption seems to be about 4 litres a mile (20 miles to the gallon) on runs so far \u2013 maybe the gearing remapping will make a difference but I guess that\u2019s about what we should expect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"750\" height=\"1000\" src=\"https:\/\/www.harris.gb.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/IMG_0545.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-188\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.harris.gb.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/IMG_0545.jpg 750w, http:\/\/www.harris.gb.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/IMG_0545-225x300.jpg 225w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 750px) 100vw, 750px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Time has been taken up by final preparations for our Fundraising Ball at Paignton Zoo this weekend. I really can\u2019t get over how much help as been freely offered by our friends in pulling this together. Notably (although not exclusively) Dan Tisdall, Becky Bettesworth, Penny Jones and Glenn &amp; Jo Powell.
